Nordic jazz quartet breaks cultural and musical boundaries

SE-Quartet will release the Album “Going North” 7th April 2017. It is the group's third release in just five years. The internationally admired jazz quartet consisting of a Dane and three Swedes hope their new album will affect listeners both inside and outside groups of jazz listeners.

The album is dedicated to refugees who have arrived in the Nordic countries in recent years. SE-Quartet thus intends to donate part of the sale of this CD to a relevant aid organization. The title “Going North “ both refers to the refugee theme as well as being a reference to the Nordic musical tradition of Scandinavian jazz. The music is captivating with its beautiful melodies, energetic beats and a live interaction along with epic improvisations. In the awe inspiring piece “Even Death Will Die “, the award-winning chamber choir “Stella” participates.

Breaking Boundaries
In the compositions SE-Quartet have an additional focus on breaking down the traditional boundaries jazz music often consists of: theme-solo-theme. So it is with the tune “Vilhelmina – Storuman” starting with a melodic soprano sax theme, which evolves into a B-part with fast synchronous piano-sax phrases and proceeding on a free piano-drum improvisation. The framework is also broken by SE-Quartet’s inspiration from many other genres such as gospel, avant-garde, popular music, classical and soul.

Change The World
SE-Quartet holds a conviction they believe will have a lasting value, without evaluating others. A conviction that is evident in the composition ”The Power Of Forgiveness“ written by Rasmus H. Thomsen for a radio broadcasted worship service where South African bishop Desmond Tutu preached. Being able to forgive each other is one of the most powerful tools of reconciliation, whether it concerns conflicts between countries, population groups or wounded relationship between two people.

Reviews Days To Come:
